Happy New Baby

A friend is having a baby any day now so a few of us threw her a baby shower and as always my contribution was the food!

First we have the daddy bouquet and thank you favours; we decided on a purple and butterfly theme and I took it a little too literary. The daddy bouquet is sugar cookies in the shape of butterflies (one large and two small) and two tulips finished with purple royal icing. The thank yous’ are large butterflies finished with, again, purple royal icing and packaged in a sealed bag. I did let the mummy to be know that these had royal icing on them so she would avoid them.

The cupcakes were two tiered chocolate cupcakes with chocolate ganache on the bottom and purple tinted vanilla frosting on the top, as well a butterfly offcourse.

As well as the cupcakes I made strawberry and chocolate macrons to match.

And because it was shaping up to be a 35-degree day a fruit platter to keep everyone hydrated!

All in all not a bad little gathering!

The Day of Overpriced Love

So I’ve been off with the fairies, again, but I bring you my Valentines Day Special (nearly a month late). It’s the thought that counts or in this case many many pretty red heart shaped ones. See for me almost all holidays are over commercialised, over hyped and way too over priced but now that I bake everyone gets baked goodies so this is what my loved ones and acquaintances got;

Sugar cookies with royal icing; both recipes from Joy of Baking. The white and red seemed like a safe bet and I used “flooding” consistency royal icing for the marbling.

I made little sleeves for each cookie with a paper doilies cut in half and did a few cookies in fondant just for a different look.

And to finish a few chocolate covered strawberries!
